Hotel Moratorium is lifted in Galapagos to boost tourism

Posted On 02 Sep 2014

galapagos-moratoria-hoteleraThe Ecuadorian government lifted the hotel moratorium to build new infrastructure for tourist accommodation in the Galapagos Islands, said Tourism Minister, Sandra Naranjo.

This decision “is part of a complete strategy. Galapagos needs to switch to a model of high quality and not high quantity of tourists”, Naranjo said in her twitter account.

The hotel infrastructure expansion will be done “depending on the quality of service and the highest standards”, she said.

Nevertheless, the moratorium will remain in effect for existing accommodations in Galapagos, which may not be extended with new rooms.
