House of Representatives passes resolution against fiscal cliff
After the House of Representatives of the United States (with a majority of Republican members) rejected the bill passed by the Senate to avoid falling into the fiscal cliff, last Tuesday night, such part of the congress have accepted without changes, 257 votes in favor and 167 against, the proposal to keep tax cuts for most Americans and to delay for two months the drastic automatic cuts of public spending agreed in 2011, marking a “victory” for Democratic President Barack Obama, who promises that once he signs the bill, U.S. will not fall into recession.
The president welcomed the agreement and said he is “one step closer” of a broader effort to strengthen the economy and extolled the virtues of a solution “that keeps the income tax at a modest level for the media class“, which means that “millionaires and billionaires will pay their fair share to reduce the deficit.”
Likewise Obama also launched a veiled warning to the Congress to not try to force a reduction in the government budget, denying needed resources.
