Ibarra has a new queen, chosen by councilors
Daniela Espinoza Ortiz, 19, became yesterday the new queen of Ibarra, after a group of councilors of this city reached consensus during a special session where they had the difficult task of selecting the new sovereign between three candidates; Wendy Miranda and Alexandra Pupiales were named Miss Fellowship and Miss Patronage, respectively.
For the first time, a group of elected officials, in charge of the organization of the festivities, decided behind closed doors and by a secret ballot, to name the new queen of Ibarra and other beauty dignities of the city.
Only nine of the eleven councilors participated in the session since Andrea Scacco and William Hidalgo in recent days expressed their disagreement with the new designation method.
The new queen will be crowned this September 21st as well as Miranda and Alexandra.
The queen election in Ibarra caused a lot of controversy in the last days, when no candidates signed up to participate in the beauty pageant, organized by the City Hall, apparently for the few economic incentives offered by the council.
