Imported products may enter up to $ 2000 without the INEN regulation
According to a statement posted on the website of the Customs Service of Ecuador (Senae) on February 28, it communicates that importers can buy abroad up to $ 2000 per month of the same subheading without presenting recognition certificates required by the Ecuadorian Standardization Institute (INEN).
This regulation is a “scope newsletter”, issued 10 days before it was determined if an import with several subheadings reached over $ 2000, it had to submit the documents required by the INEN.
Customs adviser of the Chamber of Commerce of Guayaquil, Gabriela Uquillas, indicates that the measure is especially useful for importing products for samples and tastings, not necessarily for commercial purposes.
For Manuel Murtinho, manager of the Automotive Ecuadorian Association, this reform is a help for the sector, but it does not solve its problems, because for large quantities imports on items like brake pads and hosepipes, the requirements are difficult to meet.
Likewise, he added that with the previous rule, if two products with need of recognition certificates reached over $2000, they should submit technical documentation to enter the country. Now, it will be possible to bring $ 2000 in brake pads subheadings and another $ 2000 in other kind of spare parts.
