Indigenous march to Quito seeking to avoid eviction of the CONAIE

sede-conaieThe Indigenous and Peasant Federation of Imbabura (FICI) undertook yesterday a march in Otavalo with destination to the headquarters of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), located in Quito (Pichincha).

The aim of the march is “to defend the collective and individual rights, and to ratify the House of CONAIE as property and patrimony of the Peoples and Nationalities of Ecuador,” they said in a statement.

This, after onDecember 11, the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES for its Spanish acronym)reported to the CONAIE they should leave their headquarters because the property will serve to treat young people who have overcome the stage of detoxification crisis.

The deadline for submitting this property would be January 6th.
