Inmates might be Employed to Rebuild Areas Affected by Earthquakes in Italy
In Italy, Minister of Justice, Paola Severino, analyzes the possibility of using inmates for the reconstruction of areas affected by the earthquakes that occurred in recent weeks in the northeast.
“In the situation we find ourselves and requiring rapid action (…) the idea is to use the detainees are not dangerous and that already enjoy the semi-freedom (…),” said Severino.
The Minister seeks to use those prisoners who have committed petty offenses such as drugs use and violation of immigration laws.
“I would like all prisons in the region to involve (…) I have always believed that work is a resource for reintegration into society,” said the minister.
Yesterday afternoon, a 5.1 on the Richter scale earthquake happened in northern Italy without causing further damage. The epicenter was located again in the region of Emilia-Romagna.
