Investment in the electricity sector is growing, while the number of companies falls
Following the change of the energy matrix proposed by the Government, the Ecuadorian business sector invested more capital while the number of companies that perform some kind of activity, falls. From January to March, the investment was $540 million, 85% more than the same period of last year.
According to the Superintendency of companies, capital placed in the electricity sector during the first three months of this year amounted to 22.8 billion dollars, higher than to the almost $10 million invested by this industry during the same period of the previous year.
While the electric corporate activity showed a decrease from 18 to 14 in the number of companies operating.
Pre-existing companies increased their capital of $8.2 million between January and March of 2013 to $22.7 million in the same months of this year. While companies that were constituted invested an amount of about 80 thousand dollars from January to March this year. That figure meant a reduction of 91.8%.
