Japan Admitted that Fukushima was “A Man-Made Disaster”
Fukushima nuclear accident was “a disaster caused by man” and not simply a consequence of the giant earthquake and tsunami that occurred on March 11, 2011 in northeastern Japan, on Thursday concluded a parliamentary committee that investigated the facts.
“It is clear that this accident was a disaster caused by man. Previous governments and at the time, regulators and Tokyo Electric Power, failed in their duty to protect people and society, “the Japanese investigation committee in its final report.
Depending on the outcome of the official investigation, “the accident was the result of collusion between government, regulatory agencies and the operator Tepco, and a lack of direction from the same instances.”
“We think that the root causes were the organization and regulation systems, which were based on erroneous logic, decisions and actions, and not a problem of competence of a particular individual.”
Fukushima’s accident, the worst case since the Chernobyl disaster (Ukraine) in 1986, came after a magnitude 9 earthquake in the Tohoku region (northeast), which triggered a tsunami along the coast. (FL)
