Researchers in Japan on Tuesday unveiled a robot that can lift a patient weighing up to 80 kg and placed in a wheelchair, an innovation that would release health workers of such an exhausting task.
In the senior centers in Japan, where the rapid aging of the population is expected to affect the economy, a person to lift patients from the floor in order to place them in a wheelchair is required 40 times a day, a task that is both difficult and tired.
Nicknamed RIBA 2, the robot is smooth to the touch, it moves smoothly and responds to voice commands.
The team consists of experts from Riken, a research institute of Natural Sciences of Japan, and Tokai Rubber Industries.
