Jose Francisco Cevallos “Hanged His Gloves”
One of the greatest goalkeepers in the Ecuadorian football, José Francisco Cevallos, called the “Hands of Ecuador”, quitted yesterday from professional football in a very emotional match playing in his current team Liga de Quito, club that led him to the crowning in Libertadores Cup in 2008
After the match, Cevallos, 40, thanked God, to the fans and his family with tears and hugs. He wore the tricolor flag on the back and then with his son Matthew in his arms, he began to cross the field to receive ovations. However, Cevallos was unable to fulfill a dream: Playing with his son José Francisco Cevallos Enriquez, in his same soccer team on an official match.
At a press conference, the World Cup goalkeeper better known as Pepe Pancho, thanked everyone for their support in his 21-year career, recalling his start in Barcelona in 1990 (434 games), team which he said aims one day to preside. On being a Sports Minister, he merely repeated that it would be an honor to be in that position, but said there is nothing concrete yet.
