Judge Jhon Rodríguez Mindiola, from the Yaguachi Multi-Competent Unit (Guayas) was dismissed by the Electoral Contentious Tribunal.
Judge Jhon Rodríguez Mindiola, of the Multi-competent Unit of Yaguachi (Guayas) lost his position, on August 24, 2023, for having restored the political rights of former Vice President Jorge Glas.
The magistrate issued a resolution in favor of the former president on June 9, 2022, which opened the door for him to be a candidate again. The magistrate granted him a precautionary measure to reverse the loss of said rights after being sentenced for corruption.
This decision by Judge Rodríguez cost him his job. The Electoral Dispute Tribunal sentenced him not only with his dismissal, but also that he must pay a fine of USD 31,500, in 30 days and he lost his political rights for four years.
The judge was sentenced for interfering in the operation of the Electoral Function”, typified in article 279, numeral 7, of the Electoral Organic Law.
This represents a very serious infraction, for which he received the maximum sanction allowed by the Law.
