Lima Newspaper Expresses Contempt Against President Correa
Daily Correo from Peru answered with a controversial front page the lawsuit that President Correa won against El Universo newspaper. Daily Correo showed their rejection to President Correa with a front headline that read “repudiation”
The newspaper rejected the visit of the Ecuadorian president, and also called him, “dictator apprentice that stalks on the freedom of speech.” After the arrival of Mr. Correa in Lima, he presented a work in the International Book Fair of Lima. There the Ecuadorian leader stated that Humala will face great opposition, especially of the press since they supported his rival Keiko Fujimori.
Aldo Mariategui, director of the newspaper Correo, left his daily column in blank as a protest against Mr. Correa, whom he called “Ecuador’s populist and bad-tempered autocrat that assaults on the freedom of speech of his country.” (AV)
