Locals blockied the transmission to miners in Imbabura
Residents of the Intag sector, located in the West of the province of Imbabura, yesterday blocked the roads, as a form of rejection to mining, so the staff of the national mining company (Enami) and the National Corporation of copper from Chile could not enter the sector.
José Jativa, inhabitant of the community known as Barcelona, said that he maintains a neutral stance in respect to mining, but pointed out that in his territory, the locals allowed technicians to take samples and when if they damage their lands, with the help of the neighbors,he will be the first ito punish the mining.
Moreover, technical miners abandoned their work between Saturday night and Sunday morning, since the national authorities had to withdraw from the Intag area, as well as the police officers of the special operations group (GOE).
The head of the operation, Lieutenant Yandry Arévalo, said that since last Saturday he departed with his troop from mechanic detachment of Yaguachi, located in the city of Ibarra, towards the Intag zone, with the aim of fulfilling the provision of the Northern operational command 1, to give protection to the Enami EP staff.
