Marcia Caicedo: “Embezzlement in the ruling party”

The vice presidential candidate of the Plurinational Coordinator of the Left Movements, Marcia Caicedo, accused the presidential binomial of Alianza PAIS, formed by Rafael Correa and Jorge Glas, of using resources, infrastructure and public officials in their campaign, as well as the use of minors in political advertising spots.

The Electoral Contentious Tribunal (TCE for its Spanish acronym) summoned both parties, yesterday, at 11:30.

Attorney Guido Arcos represented the defense of the Alianza PAIS (AP) movement.

In 23 minutes, Caicedo presented her evidence: copies of requests, made by the governor of Loja, to use public vehicle, photographs of the CNEL cars placing AP billboards, the convening of District 1 health officials from Portoviejo to attend the meetings, Secom chain in favor of Glas, the use of military helicopters, transmitting on channels of seized media, the use of children in advertising spots “Ya Tenemos Presidente” (…).

Meanwhile, Arcos stated the complaint as unfounded and as a quest for notoriety. He argued against all evidence. He concluded that individuals cannot blame the binomials for the actions of the other officers or public authorities. He said the spot is not theirs. He took a computer specialist to indicate that anyone can make and upload videos of Rafael Correa on YouTube.

The hearing lasted about 90 minutes. The resolution of the case will be revealed in the coming days by Judge Patricio Baca.
