“Mediation saves time and money, and avoids a physical and emotional toll,” said Fabiola Andrade, Monday, during the program to promote the Mediation service at Trinitaria Island, in the south of Guayaquil (photo), as well as in other sectors of the country.
Coordinator of Mediation of Guayas Cielito Mora recalled that since 2013 the Judicial Council had opened 136 offices in 112 cantons of 24 provinces, which worked with 225,496 cases in matters of Family, Civil, Transit, Labor, Tenancy, social cohabitation, consumers and adolescent offenders.
“This has allowed the citizens to resort to mediation more and more, and consider it a useful tool to solve their conflicts, without going to trial and to reach agreements through dialogue.” From January to August 2017, 37,971 cases were handled through mediation, of which 16,345 corresponded to family issues.
Mediation is not applicable in cases of domestic violence, divorce, processes that refer to the public domain (public parks), tax issues, inalienable rights, criminal offenses and, constitutional issues. (I)
