Mexico and the US capture ‘Chapo’ Guzmán

Joaquín ” Chapo” Guzmán, one of the most wanted drug dealers in the world and Chief of the powerful and feared Sinaloa cartel, was arrested yesterday in his home State. Guzman, who was on the run for 13 years after escaping from a Mexican prison where he was purging a long sentence, was caught after months of tracking in which agencies from USA helped, revealed the general Attorney, Jesús Murillo.
Guzmán who is 56 years old, was yesterday led to the city of Mexico on an airplane, presented for a few esconds to the media and transferred by helicopter to a cell. Authorities did not clarified if Guzman will be extradited to the United States, where he faces several charges, or if he will be tried in Mexico. In Chicago, Guzmán is considered “public enemy number one”, something that only happened before with the mafia chief Al Capone.
The United States qualified the arrest as a “historic achievement and a victory for the citizens of Mexico and the US “The Mexican Prosecutor’s Office offered a 30 million pesos ($2.3 million)reward for Guzman, while the United States offered $5 million.
Guzman led a war against rival cartels and security forces unleashing a spiral of violence linked to drug trafficking that has left more than 85,000 dead since 2006.
