Military units in Crimea are inspected by Minister Sergei Shoigu
The Russian Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, arrived today to Crimea to inspect the Russian Black Sea Fleet, and control nearly all military units on the peninsula.
Shoigu, who is the first member of the Russian Government in visiting the territory since the country joined the Russian Federation Government, met the Crimean Prime Minister, Sergey Axionov, and the head of administración of the Sevastopol port, Alexei Chaliy.
In addition, he met the officers and soldiers who decided to quit the service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and, instead, swore allegiance to Russia.
Shoigu explained they shall enjoy the same rights and opportunities as other Russian soldiers, and be able to choose the place of destination.
At the same time, the Russian Minister rewarded with the position of Vice-Admiral of the Black Sea Fleet to the Rear Admiral Denis Berezovsky, who deserted as commander in chief of Ukrainian naval forces to belong to the Crimean side.
