Missouri Tornado Claims 116 Lives

A huge tornado destroyed the city of Joplin in Missouri, in the centre of the United States, Mark Rohr, a City Hall official, stated on Monday that the natural phenomena left 89 dead.

Last Sunday night, the tornado assailed the city of Joplin near the border of Oklahoma and Kansas. The tornado that fell upon Joplin was the most deadly of the seven Estates, according the National Weather Service. Scott Meeker, journalist from the newspaper The Joplin Globe said, “This is war zone.”

People were scavenging for family and friends in the debris of collapsed homes and turned over vehicles. Flames and black smoke poured out of the broken homes, while water sprouted from damaged pipes. The scared survivors looked investigated the damages in their city.

The governor of Missouri, Jay Nixon, informed that at the moment the current death toll is of 116 fatalities.
