The first amendments to the COIP were published in the third Supplement of the Official Gazette No. 598 of September 30.

Editorial changes, spelling corrections, the replacement of some words, the removal and replacement of paragraphs and the increase of sections are the modifications made to the document. Crimes of trademark counterfeiting, copyright piracy against rights of the author, the breach of commitments of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and changes to penalties for traffic offenses were classified.

Legislator Andrés Paez seeks increased penalties for forest fires. He proposed penalties ranging from three to six years, from one to three years and 16-25 years. The proposal is that actions to prosecute these offenses must be indefeasible when these threaten the nature.
