A shipment of more than 6 million iron plus folic acid tablets arrived in Ecuador to strengthen care for pregnant women and combat child malnutrition, the Ministry of Health reported on December 6, 2023.
The State portfolio assured that the amount of this investment exceeds USD 400 thousand and will supply all first-level health care facilities in the country.
The tablets will be used to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women, within the framework of the National Strategy Ecuador grows without Child Malnutrition.
From the first prenatal check-up, pregnant women receive iron tablets plus folic acid to reduce the risk of anemia, support the adequate growth and development of the fetus, and avoid complications associated with pregnancy and childbirth.
The Ministry assured that, until October 2023, it served more than 241 thousand pregnant women nationwide and delivered more than 25 million tablets of iron salts plus folic acid.
