Mubarak Steps Down On Day 18 of Protests
Posted On 11 Feb 2011
Speculations about the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his family leaving Cairo have been confirmed. The state television channel Al Jazeera reported that their current location is Sharm el Sheikh, at the east of the country along the Red Sea.
Egyptian Vice president, Omar Suleiman, announced that the country will be under Military Forces control.
A crowd celebrated their victory in the streets. The Military Forces took over power temporarily, with the promise of a “peaceful transition” toward “a democratic society.” The fall of the Egyptian president, celebrated by the United States and Europe, also opens a new era in the Middle East. While Israel and Arabia Saudi expressed their concern about the change, the Islamists in Gaza, Iran and Lebanon saw it as an opportunity.
