Municipality of Guayaquil denounced Barcelona for withholding taxes

The Municipality of Guayaquil, through its mayor, Jaime Nebot, clarified that the entity did not sue the club Barcelona, but denounced the sports institution for withholding taxes, coming from the box office.

In an official statement, Nebot explained that “the Municipality of Guayaquil has reported to the Office of the Attorney General for such an infraction, since, if it does not, the criminal liability would fall, by law, on the mayor and the Executive Director.”

According to the complaint, which was presented by Carlos Rodríguez (Head of Public Events of the Municipality) and Otto Carvajal (Syndic Procurator), from March 13, 2013 to date, the club owes $ 730,091.

The burgomaster reported that although the club maintains another type of debts with the municipal entity, another thing is to arbitrarily set the monies of taxes. The first hearing was scheduled for last Monday, but no Barcelona manager showed up.

But Manuel Jacho, syndic of the club, reported that they previously sent a document where they justified their absence. For his part, José Francisco Cevallos, president of Barcelona, also through a statement, said that the responsibility would fall on the past administration, which was in the hands of Antonio and Luis Noboa, stage where those values would not have been paid to the Municipality.

Cevallos clarified that since he assumed the functions of president, in October 2015, they have raised by that same concept (taxes from ticket offices) $ 400,000, money that has been delivered to the Headquarters of Public Spectacles of the Municipality of Guayaquil. But the Cabildo credited that value to the total amount of the debt, which came from the previous administrations, that is to say that the debt was not divided by years or periods.
