New eviction in Monte Sinai
Today at 10:30 am, police officers on cars, bikes, on foot and on horseback came to the cooperative Las Marias, in the area of Monte Sinai, accompanied by a tractor and a backhoe to start the previously announced eviction.
The cooperative of 97 houses was divided into two sectors. On one side was the tractor and the backhoe to the other, all amid complaints from residents who saw their homes being devastated, even –according to neighborhood leaders- the houses whose owners had not been notified of the eviction.
According to unofficial reports from police members, a police helicopter discharged tear gas in the area but was not put into use. Around 11:45, members of the Armed Forces arrived to the place, and formed in the main street of Monte Sinai.
The now “former inhabitants” of the sector, who resided there since before 2010, expect the government to relocate them into one of the various state housing projects. Those who arrived after 2010 must find a new home on their own.
