Petroecuador personnel drilling an oil well in the province of Orellana.

The state company Petroecuador estimated a production of 700 barrels per day in the SCHAQ-605 well, located in the Sacha field, in the province of Orellana, and whose drilling began this Tuesday, February 27.

This well is located on the SACHA AQ platform (Sacha 490). A dozen wells have been drilled in that location, with a total production of 7,800 barrels per day, the state company said in a statement.

Petroecuador plans to drill five additional wells, which would obtain an increase of 3,500 barrels.

The general manager of Petroecuador, Marcela Reinoso, verified the start of drilling of the SCHAQ-605 well. This is number 11, of a total of 15 programmed on this platform, the letter stated.

 The Sacha 490 platform

The investment made for the construction of the SACHA AQ platform (Sacha 490) amounted to USD 11.2 million. This includes civil, electromechanical works and equipment purchases, as well as the hiring of local labor.

The drilling campaign being developed in the Sacha field (Block 60) has technology that allows ” sustainable production, guaranteeing care for the environment and good neighborliness with the communities,” according to Petroecuador.

At present, the Sacha field has four drilling rigs and four workover towers.

The Sacha field maintains a production potential of around 79,000 barrels of oil per day. Its reserves are around 342 million barrels.

Oil is one of Ecuador’s main export products and one of the main pillars of its economy.

Currently, it produces around 487,000 barrels per day, of which approximately 70% is destined for export. l

The Government’s plans contemplate the possibility of reaching 550,000 barrels per day by 2025.
