Newborn is rescued from a drain in Spain
The Ministry of the Interior of Spain said in a statement that in the city of Alicante, a 26-year-old woman was arrested and charged for the attempted murder of her newborn baby, which firefighters managed to rescue from a building drain once a neighbor alert them about what happened.
The infant, who still had the umbilical cord was wrapped in plastic bags, was trapped about 40 hours in a hole of one square meter where the drians confluence in the housing complex.
The baby was taken to a hospital, where doctors reported that his life was not in danger, even though he had a broken arm and other injuries not detailed.
When police arrived at the hospital to question the mother of the baby, the woman acknowledged that she did not want to have the baby and that she didn’t have the money to get an abortion.
According to the release issued by the Ministry, the mother was detained and investigations were undertaken to determine whether she acted alone or with the help of someone else to get rid of the baby.
On May 25 there was a similar case in China, when a newborn accidentally fell into a drain pipe in a bathroom when her mother gave birth. The child was rescued alive and is in good condition.
