Not even Christmas can save the trade
The business sector estimates that its sales will fall between 1% and 2% this year compared with the previous, said Juan Carlos Diaz Granados, executive director of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce.
$ 207.4 million on purchases will fail to enter, which is the equivalent, as an example, to the fact that the largest supermarket of the country stops selling for a month and a half.
If the sales decrease continue at this level until December, trading will close with such negative figure that it could not be outweighed even with Christmas shopping, according to union representatives. The truth is that the first months of the year were not so bad and managed to soften the fall of 6% the sector has dragged in the last six months.
Thus, if the financial year closed this month, there could still be a growth in trade (3-4%according to calculations). We will have to wait for Santa Claus to confirm the trend.
