Over 132,000 hectares of shrimp pools at high risk during El Niño phenomenon

In the last workshop on the impact of El Niño in the shrimp sector it became clear that the pools near the Gulf of Guayaquil are at greatest risk.
The Subsecretary of Aquaculture, Jorge Romero, and the technical team of the institution explained to shrimp farmers convened by the National Aquaculture Chamber the preventive measures to tackle the next rainy season, especially before the announcement of an event, the union said.
The workshop served to show the impacts caused by El Niño in 1997-1998, as well as the shrimp sector, heavily affected.
