Peru to the expectation of The Hague’s verdict on limits with Chile
Hours before the ruling that will determine if whether or not a new maritime boundary between Peru and Chile will exist, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, has even invited political leaders to listen to such verdict in the Palacio de Gobierno.
Following the ruling of The Hague, Humala will give a message to the nation, and until that, has asked both the opposition and business leaders , to remain calm , not to speculate about the judgment and to maintain a sense of national unity.
The dispute comes after Peru requested the establishment of a maritime boundary with Chile that, in its opinion, is not determined, and that would give more than 35,000 km², which have been under Chilean sovereignty so far and would dignify the closure of its last frontier.
Meanwhile Chile rejects this argument as it ensures that the limit was set by two treaties signed in 1952 and 1954 that Peru now considers only as fisheries agreements.
