Politicizing the economy always ends in disaster, says Alberto Dahik

Former Vice President Alberto Dahik said that Ecuador is going through a deep crisis, whose triggering factor is not only oil but a set of measures such as the 5% tax, the lack of foreign investment, the excessive government spending and the temporary safeguards.
He considers that this is good news because it implies that it is not the low oil prices the cause of what Ecuador lives today but the economic model, which is exhausted and has to be changed to move the country forward.
For Dahik, this is a time when the Ecuadorian society has to avoid political maneuvering in economic decisions as Chile has done, since “politicizing the economy always ends in disaster and when there is a recession, the poorest are the ones who suffer.”
