Pope Francis opted for a jeep
Yesterday, before officially starting his pontificate, Pope Francis was given time to explore the St. Pedro Square, where thousands of parishioners were waiting for him anxious and excited.
With the smile that has made him creditor to an early popularity, Francis moved the crowd on board of an open-top jeep, under the custody of several men dressed in black, what surprised his supporters.
His popularity is reflected also in his almost four million followers of his official Twitter accounts which are translated in nine languages. The most popular is the account in English @pontifex’, with 2.06 million followers, followed by the Spanish version @pontifex_es, 1.04 million.
During his tour, Pope Francis asked to stop the car and got off to be able to greet a quadriplegic man. He walked a few steps, approached the patient, spoke to him, kissed him on the forehead and gave him his blessing.
This gesture of the Pope is an example of his austere and simple personality.
