Pope says goodbye to Mexico

Pope Benedict XVI

This morning, Pope Benedict XVI arrived to Silao, Mexico to perform the farewell ceremony before traveling to Cuba, where he was cherished by thousands of faithful Catholics.

Benedict XVI today urged Mexicans “not to be intimidated by the forces of evil” in a country plagued by drug violence.

“I wish to reiterate energetically and clearly a call to the Mexican people to be true to themselves and not be intimidated by the forces of evil, to be brave and work so that the sap from its Christian roots kindle their present and future,” afterwards Benedict said goodbye.

The Pope described his three-day visit as “short but intense.” During his stay, Benedict denounced the drug-related violence and called for renewal of their faith to fight corruption and poverty.
