President Correa will announce in 2016 if he plans to go on reelection

President Rafael Correa said on Thursday November 6 that he will postpone until 2016 the announcement about a new possible candidacy, after the constitutional judgment that opened the door for indefinite reelection.

“The (presidential) elections are in February 2017, then it will be in October, November 2016″ when I announce the decision, said Correa.

Correa, in office since 2007, was practically able to stand for a new term of office after the Constitutional Court authorized the Congress, with an official party majority, to amend the Constitution in order to incorporate indefinite reelection for the elected authorities of popular vote.
