President Correa Will Not Ask Permission About Assange Asylum
The Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa reassured this Tuesday that the decision on political asylum requested by Julian Assange will be sovereign.
“I don’t want to talk about the case of Julian Assange until the analysis we are doing for the political asylum request is not finished, what I do insist on is, with all do respect to England, Sweden and United States, we will take a sovereign decision, Ecuador will not have to ask permission to anyone,” said Correa.
Correa stated that the study they are doing is very complex, adding that he is not afraid of possible repercussions in case the political asylum for Assange is approved.
The founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange is hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since June 19, after being sentenced to face sexual charges on Sweden. (AV)
