President Moreno meets privately with Guillermo Lasso for the transition

President Lenín Moreno and the elected president, Guillermo Lasso, met on the morning of this Monday, April 19, 2021 at the Carondelet Palace. This is the first transition meeting between the incoming and outgoing governments.

The elected president was received by the current president in Carondelet.

The winner of the April 11 elections was accompanied by his wife, María de Lourdes Alcívar, and the vice president-elect, Alfredo Borrero. In Carondelet he received him with the first lady, Rocío González, and the vice president María Alejandra Muñoz. After an official photograph and greeting Lasso’s followers who gathered in the Plaza Grande, the two authorities entered a private meeting. 

The dialogue between the two takes place at the same time as the meeting held by the working groups with their transition teams. On the Government side are the Minister of Labor, Andrés Isch, and the Cabinet Secretary, Jorge Wated. Lasso delegated Iván Correa Calderón, Juan Carlos Holguín and Heinz Moeller to represent him. The idea is to make the current information transparent and deliver so that the new administration knows the state of the country.

“La mesa no queda servida”, aclaró el presidente Moreno, antes de ingresar a la sesión privada. En su intervención también destacó que el Ecuador recuperó libertad y que las demás funciones del Estado obtuvieron “respeto, autonomía e independencia”. En materia económica, el Primer Mandatario se refirió a la renegociación de la deuda, que evitará el pago de capitales a los tenedores en los primeros dos años. “La situación sin duda comienza difícil, pero usted sabrá llevarla adelante”, acotó.

Lasso agradeció la predisposición de Moreno para entregar todos los datos e información requerida y que le ayudarán a tomar decisiones en su mandato, a iniciar el 24 de mayo. “Tendré la oportunidad de conversar a solas con el presidente Moreno, empaparme de algunos puntos del Estado, el primero de ellos será la vacunación”, comentó. El líder de CREO agregó que la inoculación masiva debe ser un proceso amplio, transparente y equitativo. Su plan es inmunizar a nueve millones de personas en los primeros tres meses de su gobierno.

“Me parece que este es un acto democrático para la transferencia del poder en beneficio del pueblo ecuatoriano”, resaltó. Lasso acabó su intervención con un mensaje para recordar que su esposa estará de manera constante junto a él para acompañarlo como Primera Dama, algo similar a lo hecho por González con el presidente Moreno. Finalizadas las declaraciones públicas, Moreno y Lasso ingresaron a un salón privado para la reunión.
