Five months before the elections for mayors and governors in the country, the mayor office of Quito has six pre-candidates.

The current mayor of Quito, Augusto Barrera, seeks the reelection with the political party of the regime Alianza Pais; Antonio Ricaurte represents the movement Vive; Juan Carlos Solines would be the candidate of the Movement Creo, Jose Vasquez is an independent candidate; Gonzalo Perez has the support of Prian, and Esteban Paz was proposed by SUMA movement, which is led by former presidential candidate, Mauricio Rodas.

Paz candidacy stirred the political spectrum, as the candidate of SUMA is the leader of the soccer team Liga de Quito and is the son of former mayor Rodrigo Paz.

Regarding the indecision of Paz, Ricaurte said that he must rush his decision of whether or not he will be an applicant for primary elections. “My proposal is that we go to primary, with opinion polls, to see who has best intentions to vote and thereby define a consensus candidate,” explained Ricaurte.

Paz has held on several occasions that his priority is his family, the sports leadership and his economic stability.

PRIAN leader in Pichincha and candidate for mayor, Gonzalo Perez, said his candidacy was raised in meetings with his party. He added that he would be ratified at a meeting scheduled for the first half of October.
