The American magazine Travel + Leisure published a list of the best cities to visit in South America. Quito ranks fourth.

The American magazine Travel + Leisure chose Quito as one of the five best cities in South America to visit in 2023.
He reached that conclusion through a survey in which 165,000 people participated.
The Ecuadorian capital reached fourth place, with 85.05 points, only behind São Paulo, in Brazil; Cartagena, in Colombia; and Cuzco, in Peru.

- Cartagena: 85.99 points
- São Paulo: 85.41 points
- Quito: 85.05 points
- Buenos Aires, Argentina: 84.83 points
- Mendoza, Argentina: 84.79 points
- Antigua Guatemala: 84.15 points
- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: 83.89 points
- Lima: 82.66 points
- Bogota, Colombia: 82.45 points
This ranking is part of the World’s Best Awards survey, which the magazine carries out every year.
Travel + Leisure asks its readers to rate their travel experiences in various cities considering criteria such as: tourist attractions, culture, gastronomy, friendliness of the hosts, shopping and costs.
In the case of Quito, tourists highlighted its gastronomy, the beauty of its churches and historic cathedrals. In addition, “the charm of its natural environment, above all, the proximity to the urban area and the Pichincha volcano,” the magazine detailed.
And he added that readers highlighted “the friendliness of the people of Quito and the colorful atmosphere that can be found in the native markets, where attractive artisan products are offered.”
