Quito will celebrate its first festivities without Bullfighting

Organization against bullfighting
For the first time in decades, Quito will celebrate its 478 years of foundation without the traditional bullfighting Fair ‘Jesus of the Great Power’.
Pablo Salazar, Citotusa CEO, formally communicated the Municipality of Quito about the suspension of the bullfighting Fair 2012.
“The reasons for this decision, that we regret, are very complex and are evidenced in the fear and disinterest of fans about the bullfights, in where the death of the bull is banned, within an atmosphere of controversy, opposition and threat” quotes the statement.
Felipe Ogaz, representative of Diabluma, an organization against bullfighting , described this decision as a victory. “The best fair of America just died.“
In the other hand, bullfighting fans, organized demonstrations against this decision, outside Iñaquito bullring.
