Rafael Correa is denounced for treason against his country
On the night of this Thursday, April 11, 2024, it was learned that the Minister of Labor, Ivonne Núñez , filed a complaint with the Pichincha Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged commission of the crime of treason by former President Rafael Correa.
He accuses him, in his personal capacity, of a series of comments that he has made, both in the media and on social networks, in which, according to the complaint, he would have encouraged Mexico to repress Ecuador or inciting a closure of the port of Guayaquil.
Relying on article 353 of the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code, the minister indicated that Correa would have incurred cause 11, which refers to disseminating news with the intention of instilling panic or executing any act that could produce the same consequences.
The Prosecutor’s Office will investigate whether the reported facts correspond to the alleged commission of the crime, to continue with due process, if applicable.
