Chucho Benitez arrived to Ecuador

Ecuador began this Friday, August 2 with sadness after receiving the remains of the Ecuadorian soccer player Christian ‘Chucho’ Benitez, who came from Qatar, where he died last Monday.

The plane in which he arrived stopped in Lisbon (Portugal) and several hours later landed on the airport Mariscal Antonio Jose de Sucre (Quito) in Tababela at 01h57. Hundreds of fans waited outside the terminal, singing, clapping and crying, they watched as the coffin came out of the aircraft and then embarked in the carriage that departed in a caravan.

At the airport waiting for his arrival was the Chancellor, Ricardo Patiño former soccer players along with Ivan Hurtado and Agustin Delgado. Also present were his friends and team-mates such as Antonio Valencia, Jefferson Montero, Jorge Guagua and Carlos Tenorio.

After two hours of arrival, the remains of Chucho were carried outside the building for El Nacional, the club where he was born and which he became champion in 2006.

In the complex, a tribute site was built with photos of the player, flowers and other items. Although fans asked that the remains of Chucho entered the clubhouse, but this was never carried out.

Finally, the caravan took the remains of Benitez to the cemetery Monteolivo, where he underwent a second autopsy and then was taken to the Coliseum Ruminahui, to start his wake open to the general public. Which began at 08h00.

Throughout the journey the caravan saw flags of Ecuador, El Nacional, Barcelona, Liga de Quito, among others.
