Ecuadornews:
A new recording reveals conversations between Ricardo Rivera and informer José Conceição Santos, former president of the Odebrecht construction company in Ecuador. Rivera, who is tried for illicit association in the Odebrecht case, says: “(…) I want you to help me; I need money for glass’ campaign.” And the informer responds: “Only for you, only for you, you said you had the Chinese, you had here.”
In the audio, Rivera also talks about a foreign bank account in the name of Tomislav Topic, a shareholder of Telconet.
On July 17, Topic rendered his free, voluntary, unsworn version at the Office of the Public Prosecutor and assured that Telconet paid USD 5.7 million to TV Satelital (owned by Rivera) as a “courtesy” for Rivera’s intermediation in the investments made by Odebrecht and a Chinese group in Telconet.
“We have recounted everything with absolute transparency in the Office of the Prosecutor. We have nothing to hide, and we have submitted all the relevant information,” Topic stated.
On August 9, the Prosecutor’s Office summoned Vice-President Jorge Glas, to render his free, voluntary, unsworn testimony in this criminal investigation.
The official has assured that he will declare the times that are necessary. The recording of the conversations between Rivera and Santos lasts four minutes and 35 seconds. In addition to that audio, there are black and white photographs of their appointment in the suite the informer rented at the Swissotel in the north of the capital. (I)
