The Technical Sectorial Board of Rice was installed yesterday in the Daule Canton, Guayas province. As part of the Productive and Tax Advisory Council, the aim of the board is to analyze the production, commercialization and financing problems of the sector.
Representatives of rice producers and industrialists from Guayas, Manabí, Los Ríos and Loja participated in the meeting; five tables were set up: Innovation; quality and entrepreneurship; taxation; investment and financing; productive environment, and market access.
Julio Carchi, vice president of the Irrigation Board América Lomas de Daule, said that among the proposals they presented, besides having access to high-quality seeds and a better commercialization, they also request incentives to farmers, for example, “low-interest loans.”
Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Vanessa Cordero, who was present at the encounter, said she had high hopes with the installation of this board. “We will systematize all the proposals to have results in 90 days to benefit the rural areas, in this case, rice farmers,” stated Cordero.
The objective of the National Government, Cordero said, is to have an agricultural policy, “which we are already working on.” (I)
