Rio +20 Begins with Sustainable Development Topics

Ban Ki-moon, UN general secretary, inaugurated today the Rio +20 Summit at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The meeting will cover sustainable development topics, emphasizing on the promotion of a global agreement to curb global environmental degradation and fight poverty.
A total of 86 heads of State and Government chiefs will participate in the Rio +20, which will run until Friday.
The UN Summit on Sustainable Development Rio +20 occurs 20 years after the historical Earth Summit in 1992, in which decisions were made to address climate change, biodiversity loss and desertification. “Twenty years later, we have another opportunity, let’s not waste it, ” said Ban Ki-moon. (MZ)
