Salesian Foundation Father Antonio Amador for the Street Children: 18 Years Changing Lives

In these 18 years, many goals have been achieved, and the joint response of a generous and committed society has been crucial.

“The main mission is to support the Salesian Project for the Street Children on its rescue work, rehabilitation, prevention, education and training of street children and those who are at risk,” says Executive Director, Neda Ycaza de Guzman.
“Since 2003 we have been blessed to have a space for planning and organizing events to support the Salesian project” she adds.
The crafts from all the children of the Salesian project reach the Foundation, the crafts come from the Salesian shelters located at km 10 ½ way Daule, and from the workshops located at km 2 ½ Duran-Tambo road and Pascuales.
These crafts are sold in various places, in order to raise money to support the Salesian project. In the foundation an art teacher helps with the decoration and final presentation of the product for resale.

This event is called “The Bazaar”, and this year will be held on April 28th and 29th in a facility, within the CityMall.
Different Products
They do several events every year such as the flea market, I did not know what this event was, later they explained to me that is all about requesting help from door to door in order to get clothes, toys, food and other necessities for poor children.
Then these items are sold at a very reasonable price to help those in need, for example, they sell 4 shirts or 4 pants for just $1.
The money raised becomes part of the funds to improve the conditions of the Foundation, shelters and workshops. Everything is a cycle, possible only because of the solidarity of the aware people.

The people in the institution will provide lunch, education, and entertainment. Several people are volunteering to take on the welfare of children, including teachers from other schools, boys and girls from high school last year, who come to do their part in social work, etc.

The main objective of the Salesian Foundation is PREVENTION. This is accomplished by taking in children after a class, and keeping them busy with more productive chores, so the children will not have to resort to the streets as a way of entertainment and leisure.
After the child has passed a pleasant evening full of productivity, the responsible adult in charge of the child can take it home.
“Guayaquil knows us,” says Neda Ycaza, Salesian foundation is known around the entire city because of its great results and also its characteristic events. The most important event of the year is a bingo activity.
The Bingo will be held this year at the convention centerthis May 17, and always brings a lot of people willing to contribute a bit to the mission of the Salesian project; last year brought together around 800 people.

At the end, once resources have been obtained, the Salesian Foundation organizes a little Christmas party for all the children of the Salesian Project.
Father Antonio Amador Foundation for the Street Children aims to one day become a multidisciplinary institution, with a respectable and reliable economic infrastructure capable of providing effective services to support the Salesian project and other children at risk. (ARL)
