Santos defends the convenience of having good relations with neighbors
On Monday, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, while doing a review of the first four years of his administration in the company of his ministers, defended the desirability of maintaining good relations with neighboring countries because it affects “in favor of the people” and because the world sees the country with more positive eyes.
“In these four years we reconnected and improved the relations with our neighbors,” especially with Venezuela and Ecuador, broken during the previous government, said the president while discussing foreign affairs.
Santos, who restored relations with those two countries soon after assuming the leadership of the State in 2010, explained that the change in the conduct of foreign policy has enabled more and more countries to eliminate the “unfriendly requirement of visas.”
He added that now the world “is watching Colombia with much more positive eyes. They respect us, admire us, (and) point out our country as an example to follow.”
