Public universities that offer postgraduate studies, masters and doctorates could run out of state funds. This was warned on Saturday by president _ Rafael Correa.
That means a lack of financing for three colleges: the Andina Simon Bolivar University, the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) and the National Institute of Advanced Studies (IAEN).
This would be a blow to these institutions that train most of local civil servants and a minority of private employees, according to their data.
The Andina University, for example, that has been the center of criticism to the public policies of the citizen´s revolution, receives $ 27 million annually from the state. It has 2,400 students, 60% comes from the state sector and 40% from the private sector. “Any changes to assignments received by the university affects the development of the educational process, which has been classified A and is excellent,” said the president of the university Jaime Breith.
