Sentenced in Filanbanco case, appeal to court
The hearing for the appeal filed by the brothers William and Roberto Isaias and the others accused of the alleged crime of embezzlement in the Filanbanco case, was held in the Criminal Chamber of the National Court of Justice.
The proceedings took place yesterday from 15:30 on the eighth floor of the Court. Paul Iñiguez presided over the Court integrated by Johnny Ayluardo and Ximena Vintimilla. The judgement was given by Wilson Merino, National Judge. He condemned eight defendants and acquitted another five.
According to the prosecution, the Isaias brothers were President and Vice President of Filanbanco. The financial institution went bankrupt by insolvency and illiquidity, in 2001.
Emiliano Donoso, Defender of William Isaias, said his client “has been persecuted for having the Isaias surname” and clarified that it was only Vice President of a regional office of the bank.
Xavier Castro, Attorney of Roberto Isaias, said that his client did not diverted the funds and that there is no evidence of the accusations.
The Isaias brothers filed an international lawsuit in Geneva, to be declared trail null and void void, the criminal trial “for the violation of human rights and also for the confiscated properties o be returned”. The State answered the demand.
