Serrano Minister authorizes police agents ‘to repel criminals’ before they fire

“As interior minister of this government, I announce that the police has the full backing of the state to act under the progressive use of force before criminals take out weapons such as guns or knives.”
The statement of Minister Jose Serrano, last Wednesday in Quito, after an officer was shot in the head by suspected criminals who wanted to steal $ 4,000 from a couple, generated reactions by the excesses commited by agents.
A statement by the Interior Ministry even says that Serrano “authorizes police agents to repel criminals before they take out their weapons.”
