Shakira is Nominated for the Prince of Asturias Awards
Shakira has been nominated twice for the Prince of Asturias Awards this year: the singer has been proposed for both the International Cooperation Award and the Concordia one because of her work on behalf of disadvantaged children in Latin America.
The municipality of Ribadeveva, in Asturias, has driven the two candidates that were presented today in the small town in northern Spain.
Shakira has driven foundations “Barefoot” and “Latin America in Solidarity Action” (ALAS for its Spanish acronym). It is also a UNICEF ambassador and advisor to the U.S. government in education for Hispanics.
Each of the Prince of Asturias Prize is endowed with 50 000 Euros and a sculpture by Joan Miró. The prizes ceremony is held in the Spanish spring and they are delivered in the fall, in a ceremony at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo headed by the heir to the Spanish throne. (FL)
