Skype is Still Down

Posted On 23 Dec 2010

Virtual telephone calls software Skype has been down since Wednesday, 8 million connections are being lost with each hour of downtime.

Skype’s mobile applications also have trouble connecting, only Skype to Skype voice calling and group text chatting appear to be functional.

Ebay, the online shopping site that partially owns Skype, said some users were having trouble signing in, USA, Asia and Europe users complained on Twitter about the software failure.

At 15:30, (USA East time), the company affirmed the service was functioning normally, however, it would take several hours for it to be normal worldwide.

The failure has no explanation until now; the fact that it happened on Christmas Eve is not good for Skype’s reputation.

Communication quality and missed calls are some of the problems that many Skype users have been experiencing. On August 2007, the VoIP (voice-over IP) software had a system failure due to a routine update.

According to the company’s official Twitter account, Skype is aware of the outage and is currently investigating the cause. By late November, the company achieved 25 million users.
