So far this year, the crime of femicide decreased by 50%

Between January 1 and February 17 of this year, the fight against crime and the different types of crimes in Ecuador leave encouraging statistics. The most outstanding figure refers to the reduction of the crime of femicide by 50% (11 cases), informed Interior Minister César Navas, accompanied by the new high command of the Police.
The Secretary of State explained in general terms that so far this year there was a considerable reduction of 14% in the crime rates at the national level, compared to the same period of 2017.
On the road robbery reported that it was reduced 34 %, robbery to economic units 20%, theft to goods, accessories and auto parts of vehicles and motorcycles 17%; robbery to homes 8%, theft to people 16%, homicides and murders 7% and intentional homicides 14%.
In addition, 11.75 tons of drugs were seized in the same period (8.76 tons for international traffic and 2.31 tons of traffic for domestic consumption), the result of 1,427 operations.
“The Government continues with the frontal fight against drug trafficking. The problems of the border with the organized armed groups have been generated by the blows against the drug trafficking that we give. We seized more than 7 tons of chemical precursors and we have increased the capture of drugs 24% so far this year.”
The general commander of the Police, Ramiro Mantilla, said that in the anti-drug fight this year about 97 million doses of alkaloid were withdrawn from the market and about $ 175 million was prevented from entering the coffers of the criminal organizations.
Minister Navas added that the work of the Police was restructured in three axes according to the Organic Code of Public Safety and Public Order: Preventive, Investigation and Intelligence against crime. On the basis of this, General Pablo Aguirre was appointed as the new national director of Intelligence; Gral. Luis Lara, national director of the Judicial Police; and Gen. Carlos Alulema, national anti-narcotics director. (I)
